Influenza activity is continuing to increase and is now widespread in Iowa according to the Iowa Department of Public Health. Last week, there were 58 influenza-associated hospitalizations and two flu-related deaths. The percent for outpatient visits with influenza-like illness is 5.08%, well above the regional baseline of 1.7%. So far this flu-season there have been 211 hospitalizations and 11 deaths in the state.
Washington County Public Health Nurse Lynn Fisher reminds people to contain the spread of illness by staying home when you’re sick, washing your hands frequently, and cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue or into your elbow.
