The Washington County Conservation board received confirmation on a grant at their latest meeting. They were gifted $317,000 in the form of a Transportation Alternatives Project (TAP) grant for the second phase of the Kewash Trail enhancements. Improvements on the trail over the past year include work in Keota at the entrance to the trail and a new trailhead on the grounds of the Kirkwood Washington County Regional Center northwest of Washington. While the $317,000 may seem like a substantial number, it is around 75% of what the board requested. Executive Director Zach Rozmus explained that there are more TAP funds that could be acquired and he plans to draft a second grant proposal.
