The Columbus Wildcats hosted the Hillcrest Ravens on Friday night in a Southeast Iowa Superconference doubleheader. In a pair of games heard on AM and FM KCII, the Wildcat girls got their first win of the season over Hillcrest 32-26. Things were back and forth much of the night with the Wildcats leading 8-6 after the first frame and Hillcrest up 14-12 at the half. The Wildcats found their offense in the second half posting 20 points, including 14 in the fourth quarter. That offense coupled with a defense that held Hillcrest without a field goal for a five minute stretch of the second half was enough to secure the first win of the year for Columbus. Jobie Lekwa led the Wildcats with eight points. Esther Hughes had 12 and Yani Gutierrez 11 for the Ravens. After the win the Wildcats are 1-9 on the year, the Ravens 1-8.

In a hard-fought boys game it was a Raven 57-52 win. Columbus led early at 15-13 after the first quarter and 29-28 at half on the strength of seven three point goals between Brody Frost and Eric Valdez. The third quarter, the Ravens flipped a switch, going on a 15-5 run that lasted the entire frame and including 11 straight points to close the quarter. Down the stretch the Ravens did enough at the line to keep the Wildcats at bay. Kobe Borntrager led Hillcrest with 21 points, Eli Ours added 17. Columbus was led by 20 from Eric Valdez. With the win the Ravens moved to 4-3 on the year, Columbus falls to 0-9.
