Picking up non-conference wins is exactly what the Highland basketball teams did to start the New Year on Friday night, as they swept a doubleheader with English Valleys.

The Huskie girls battled back from a 12-6 deficit after one to prevail 44-39. Alyssa Brase was a force with 19 points, 13 rebounds, and six steals. Abbi Stransky added 10 points and seven boards for the now 3-9 Huskies.

The boys jumped all over the Bears in the first leading 17-4 after eight minutes and they never led up in a 52-28 rout. Mason McFarland paced the team with 15 points and Bill Laughlin had 11. Highland is now 8-1 on the season.
