The Keota City Council will be moving forward with inspections of local renters starting this week. Mayor Tony Cansler signed off on a letter which explained the process for the City of Keota Rental Inspection Ordinance. And a copy of the inspection report will be sent to those renters with inspections starting on January 8th.

Tommisha Hammes, the Keota City Clerk, explains further that this ordinance has been in place for a number of years and the city of Keota contracts Area XV (15) Multi-County Housing Agency to conduct the inspections. These inspections will follow Section 8 of the US Housing Act of 1937, which requires the collection of the renters and owner’s names and is collected by the Department of Urban Housing and Development.

Any failure to disclose such information may result in the delay or rejection of family participation. This ordinance follows those guidelines and includes inspections for all rental housing.
