To honor Kate Glinsmann, a former teacher who died from cancer recently, an open mic memorial fundraiser is being held in Washington. MUSIC Inc., a local nonprofit, is hosting the event and the funds raised will go to the Washington School District’s Kindness Closet.
Dan Henderson who is helping to organize the event said that this would be the kind of event Glinsmann would have enjoyed, “I think those that knew her understood her generous nature and how much love she had for people in the community. She was a teacher for many years, she taught little ones in kindergarten. She just had a heart for people and you can see that through her family, her sons. And they will be there by the way, Ike and Peter, and they’ll share a few words about their mother. But we want the evening to be celebratory. It’s going to be a lot about music, and goodies to eat, and donations, so I think it will be a lot of fun.”
Henderson said the donation to the Kindness Closet was a request from Glinsmann as a memorial. The Kindness Closet provides items for students that can’t always afford them, like clothes and toiletries.
The event is free with an auction and food for purchase. Local musicians will be performing. The fundraiser starts at 6:30 p.m. this Friday at the Mills Seed Company Building on North Iowa Avenue in downtown Washington.
