It was a clean sweep for the Mid-Prairie boys and girls basketball teams at Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman as they beat the visitors from Wilton in a River Valley Conference doubleheader. In the girls contest it was the Golden Hawks by a 62-44 score. Mid-Prairie led early, on the strength of 10 first quarter points from Myah Lugar, with the score at 16-12 after one quarter and 31-26 at half. The third quarter belonged to the Hawks as they scored the first nine out of half and won the frame 15-4 overall to take a 16 point lead into the fourth where they would salt the game away. Lugar led the Hawks with 16 points, Maddie Nonnenmann and Phelan Hostetler each had 11. With the win the Hawks are now 3-5
The Golden Hawk boys were a winner by a 62-43 count. Things were tight in the first half, despite a 13 point second quarter from Mid-Prairie forward Ethan Trimpe, things were tied at 26 going to halftime. The second half belonged to the Hawks. Mid-Prairie scored the first 13 points of the third quarter, won the frame 20-6 and finished the run at 33-9 through the first 12 minutes of the second half. Trimpe ended the night with 20 points, Aidan Rath had 14, and Carter Harmsen 11. With the win the Golden Hawks are now 2-5 on the year. The Mid-Prairie boys and girls will be back in action Friday when they host West Branch.
