Iowa had an increase in traffic fatalities in 2019, more than the previous two years. According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, 336 people died in crashes in Iowa last year. That’s higher than four of the last five years. In 2018 there were 315 crash-related deaths, in 2017 there were 329, in 2016 – 399, in 2015 – 316, and in 2014 – 321. Of those killed in traffic crashes in 2019, 93 people were known to have not been wearing a seat belt and 34 were on motorcycles.
