Following the weekend’s snow, area residents are reminded to clear their sidewalks. In the City of Washington, the city’s ordinance states that property owners are responsible for keeping sidewalks free of snow and ice. Sidewalks should be clear of any snow or ice accumulation within 24 hours after the snow has stopped falling or ice has formed. If it isn’t cleared, the city can clean it and assess the cost against the property. Also, snow should not be moved into the street, right of way, or alleys. Avoid creating hazardous conditions on the sidewalks or streets.
