A new bus with a wheelchair lift is being considered by the Mid-Prairie School Board. At their regular meeting, the Mid-Prairie Board of Education discussed various special education items. Alternative Learning Center Principal and Special Education Director Amy Shalla talked about the need for a second minibus for the district’s Beyond program, “So the current minibus that we have has some issues. It’s used everyday, it’s used a lot. What we’re looking for is to look for a new minibus for our Beyond program. So those are our kids who are going into work everyday to be out in the community. Right now the current minibus is used for, it runs routes, it also runs preschool. And so we have to work the Beyond program around that. But also the minibus currently right now, the lift that it has, struggles to work with some of the weight of our bigger kids.”
Shalla is suggesting the school district purchase a new minibus for the special education program and keep the older one for preschool routes. According to Superintendent Mark Schneider, the estimated price of this new bus is around $60,000 to $70,000. Agenda items also included a presentation on Behavioral Interventionist Matt Freel’s trip to the National Learning Forward Convention in St. Louis. The board will meet again on Monday, January 27th.
