Washington County Attorney John Gish will be deployed this spring, and a sendoff party is being held for him this weekend. Gish is a Captain in the U.S. Army Reserve. He’s being deployed to Kuwait and will serve as an Engineer Officer.
Gish says if people would like to give, he’d ask them to direct it to Healing at English River Outfitters, a local non-profit that provides events in the outdoors for veterans with chances to connect with other veterans, and works to prevent veteran suicides. Gish explains this request, “I’ve served in the Army for 11 years now, this will be my second deployment, but I still feel like I can still do so much more for the community, for the country, and for my brothers and sisters in arms, so I thought that HERO would be a great way for me to contribute in whatever way to benefiting our area. So, January 18th I’d invite your listeners to come to Lebowski’s Rock N Bowl 5-7 p.m. I’m paying for dinner, so if anything, come out for a free meal. And if anyone is feeling generous I encourage them to give to HERO.”
While he is deployed, his county salary is being withheld at his request. In Gish’s absence, an attorney with over 30 years of experience has been hired to fill in. Anthony Janney will take over his cases. Gish will report to Fort Hood, Texas in March and after several weeks will deploy to Kuwait.
