Monday will be the 25th anniversary of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day being a day of service. In 1983, legislation was signed to make a federal holiday to recognize the Civil Rights leader’s life each year on the third Monday of January. In 1994, the holiday was designated as a national day of service by Congress. The motto for the day is “A day on, not a day off,” asking people to use the day to help their communities by volunteering. On Monday several businesses and offices will be closed including U.S. Post Offices, county courthouses, and banks.
