Longtime Washington High School boys track and field coach Steve Roth has seen many of his athletes over the years reap the rewards of hard work. Now, it’s Roth’s turn to reap those benefits, as he was recently recognized as a finalist for the 2020 National High School Athletic Coaches Association national coach of the year.
Roth is one of 12 Iowa coaches recognized in their respective sport and is among a field of eight finalists nationally for boys track. The Iowa Girls Coaches Association nominated him for the honor on a selection process that includes longevity, service to high school athletics, honors, championship years, and winning percentage.
Finalists are invited to a national convention on July 23rd in Lincoln, Nebraska where they will announce the national coach of the year in 19 recognized sports categories.
