A dominant second half allowed the Washington girls’ basketball team to cruise to a 48-17 non-conference victory on Monday night in a home game with Louisa-Muscatine.

As heard on KCII, the Demons made an emphasis on working the ball inside with post players Addison Six and Olivia Pacha getting involved early to build a 7-3 lead. The Falcons hung around for 10 minutes when leading scorer Kylee Sanders went down with an injury and did not return. The Falcons went ice cold after that and Washington went on a 15-0 run to lead 21-11 at the break and it was stretched to 34-15 at the end of three. The inside play early opened things up on the outside, as Halle Leyden knocked down three triples to finish with a game-high 11 points. Head Coach Shannon Rugg tells KCII Sports slow starts have been their Achilles heel as of late and while last night they did not get out fast, it was a step in the right direction. “You could see our players trying to do the right thing early and get the ball inside. We are going to need the whole group to come out and play their role right from the start and I thought we did that tonight.”

The Demons move to 7-4 and they look to improve their 2-2-conference mark tonight at Keokuk. The Chiefs are undefeated in the league and 9-3 overall.
