If there was any concern of a hangover from a two-point crushing defeat to Keokuk on Monday, those concerns were dashed within the first few minutes of last nights 61-44 Washington boys win over Davis County.

As heard on KCII, the Demons got red-hot early from deep connecting on six three point field goals and built a 26-7 advantage after one in front of a big home crowd. Shooting was contagious, as five players recorded eight triples in the first half and the Demons led 41-18 at the break. It was 55-27 at the conclusion of three before the Mustangs made the final score look more respectable than it was. Ethan Patterson had all of his game-high 15 points in the first 16 minutes while Kasen Bailey and Trashaun Willis each had 12 points. Head Coach Collin Stark tells KCII Sports he liked how his team dictated pace. “The main thing was the tempo was up and we got back to how we like to play. We had quick outlets and put pressure on their defense right from the start. The first quarter especially we were playing fast.”

The Washington girls went on the road to Keokuk and were on the short end of a 43-30 affair. The second quarter proved to be the difference, as the Chiefs outscored the Demons 13-3 to lead 22-12 at half. Washington continued to fight and trailed by just six with two minutes remaining when the first-place Chiefs salted the game away at the line. Anna Nacos led the team with 17 points and Olivia Pacha collected nine boards.

The boys improve to 8-3 while the girls drop to 7-5. Both teams return to the court on Friday against Mount Pleasant.
