The Mid-Prairie boys and girls basketball teams came up empty on a road trip to Tipton Tuesday. The Golden Hawk girls fell 46-41 in the opener. Two separate droughts were Mid-Prairie’s undoing. The Hawks led 10-8 after one quarter but suffered through a five minute dry spell in the second, while Tipton went on a 7-0 run to build a lead they wouldn’t give up the rest of the night. Trailing 19-17 at half, Mid-Prairie watched the Tigers go on a run out of the locker room while Mid-Prairie went scoreless for three minutes in the third frame. The Tigers used that time to build the lead to double figures. Down the stretch, Mid-Prairie chipped away, pulling within four in the games final minute but could get no closer. Maddie Nonnenmann led the Golden Hawks with eight points, with the loss, Mid-Prairie is now 4-9 on the year.

The Golden Hawk boys fell in overtime for the second time in as many days 63-60. The Tigers and Hawks traded baskets early with Tipton leading 13-12 after one quarter. Mid-Prairie raced out to a seven point lead in the second quarter, only to see the Tigers hit back-to-back-to-back threes to erase that margin and take a lead they would not give up the rest of the night. Tipton led 24-22 at the break and in the third quarter increased their advantage to 13 with a 10-2 run. The Golden Hawks chipped away down the stretch, scoring 21 in the fourth quarter and tied the game in the final minute. Tipton had a chance to win it in regulation but a jumper and a tip at the buzzer left the Tigers wanting and sent the game to overtime. In the extra frame, senior guard Trent Pelzer took over for the Tigers scoring six of their 10 overtime points. Mid-Prairie would not go away, rebounding from a six point deficit to force a catch and shoot chance down three with under a second to go, trying to send the game to a second overtime. The inbound pass was intercepted and the Golden Hawks came up short. After the game, Mid-Prairie head coach Daren Lambert talked about the sting of another tough loss on back to back nights. “It almost feels like you learn more from a loss than you do a win because you are dwelling on the loss longer. Ultimately, we want to be on the other of these overtime games. We have to take those little things, put them together earlier and get more consistent. We are moving in the right direction, we are trending up, we need to keep working and learning.”

Carter Harmsen led Mid-Prairie with 14 points, Aidan Rath had 11 and Ethan Trimpe 10. Tipton hit 10 three pointers in the victory. With the loss, the Golden Hawks are now 3-9.
