The Mid-Prairie School District is considering greenlighting a new marketplace platform for high school students. Career Exploration Coordinator Kurtis Broeg introduced his idea to the school board. He looks to give students a way to try out entrepreneurial ideas in a school environment. Broeg’s idea is for students to be able to sell items like bakery items and crafts on a website, almost like Etsy, and teach them business and entrepreneurial skills in the process. For now, the school board has yet to greenlight the project, but Broeg hopes to have it up and going by this summer, “My hopes are the sooner the better. I think it could actually be by this summer. Once we find out that there’s no issues with it, the site itself will be up and running. I think that what’s important is that people give it time and give it patience. The cost of it is not going to be that much. And it might take time to grow. I think it will grow exponentially. And I don’t know how fast it will grow, but I don’t think it’s going to be a long time out there.” Once the project is greenlit, Broeg also says students will be able to complete three credit hours of college credit from the University of Iowa if they choose to be a part of the platform.
