The Kalona City Council has appointed their newest council member. Hank Beisheim is set to replace the vacant council seat previously held by new mayor Mark Robe. When Ken Harrington elected to not re-run as mayor in 2020, Robe decided to run as mayor and won, and once he did, his seat was vacant and was opened up for a special election or appointment. Beisheim has grandchildren in Kalona, has experience in police and construction, and has previously held a position on a homeowners association board. Beisheim’s term will last until December of 2021 and is effective immediately.
