For some, Valentine’s Day is a time to spread the love of music to a special someone. The Hillcrest Academy choir will continue their beloved tradition of singing to various individuals in Washington County for Valentine’s Day. For $35, community members in and around Kalona can request a person to be sung to and that special someone will also receive a box of chocolates. Music teacher Mike Wagner, now in his second year at Hillcrest Academy, told KCII news about the different reactions garnered by this special gesture, “A lot of love. Some of the people we went to last year kind of knew they were kind of getting this for Valentine’s Day, but a couple of people had no idea. It was a total shock that a group of high school singers dressed in red and pink show up at your workplace and sing to you and give you some chocolates. So there is a really nice response both ways. It was really fun for the people that knew it was coming and the total shock was really really fun.” For those who want to sign up to give someone this special gift, give the Hillcrest Academy Office a call by February 10th. Lactose intolerant options for candy can be arranged if requested.
