Local organizations are empowering women to get informed and join the cattle management profession. ‘Boots in the Barn’ is a four week program that meets Thursdays in January where women from the agriculture community in Keokuk and Washington counties are invited to take part in courses to learn the business. Through the first sessions, the group had a chance to speak with Iowa State University Farm Financial Management Specialist Ryan Drollett on marketing and financial management, cash flows and balance sheets and take part in a hands-on calving workshop with ISU Veterinarian Dr. Caitlyn Wiley and her cow and calf models Caramel and Butterscotch.
