Friday, five members of the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls wrestling team participated in the second annual Iowa Wrestling Officials and Coaches Association State Tournament at Waverly-Shellrock High School. The Golden Hawks had a pair of wrestlers advance through their opening matches. Mid-Prairie sophomore Rylee Vercande brought her 9-8 overall record and No. 7 ranking into the tournament and didn’t disappoint as she remains alive in her quest for a state title. After a bye she pinned teammate Mia Garvey in the second round in 30 seconds and then put Glory Hansel of North Scott on her back in just 21 seconds. Vercande will face No. 2 Meridan Snitker of Waukon in today’s quarterfinal round.
