Vehicles were stolen and others were gone through in Washington in the last week. One teenager was cited for trespass after he had gone through cars in Washington. And others remain under investigation. Washington Police Chief Jim Lester is reminding citizens to keep their cars and property safe by locking their doors, “It’s just important to remind people to lock their doors. We wouldn’t have the incidents involving the vehicles if doors would be locked. So if people would lock their doors that would help. We’re also doing a push for our community camera program to get the folks in the neighborhoods that have outside surveillance systems to share those on the city website so we have some extra eyes out there, extra help.”

Lester added that sharing that information is confidential. The police will not go into someone’s system without contacting them directly and asking for information. He says that knowing where cameras are can help officers investigate incidents. Click here to register your surveillance system with the Washington Police Department.
