Mid-Prairie senior Brad Tornow signed his name on the dotted line last week. Tornow will continue his athletic and academic career at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa. Tornow will take part in the schools baseball program while on campus. The Red Raiders are getting a player who has stood out on the diamond during his career with the Golden Hawks.

A season ago, Tornow was part of a Golden Hawk squad that went 18-12 overall, 12-7 in the River Valley Conference and advanced to the district championship round of the playoffs. As part of that run, Tornow was sparkling on the mound, posting a perfect 7-0 record, best in the RVC for starters with at least 10 appearances. He also led the conference with 55 innings pitched and 102 punch outs, fourth highest total in 2A. His 1.02 ERA was fourth in the RVC and his .167 batting average against, sixth in the RVC. This week, he talked with KCII Sports about his decision. “I really liked the campus. The coaching staff was really nice. They were helpful in explaining workouts. The support that the community gives the school was amazing. I was able to attend a football game and see it first hand. The coaches liked my personality. They thought I would be one of the hard workers in the program and would fit in well with the current freshman and sophomore classes that they say are always in doing extra work or getting extra reps in the weight room.

Tornow has also been a stand out for the Golden Hawk football team, leading the Hawks as the starting quarterback for two and a half seasons, earning academic all-state honors this season. During Tornow’s time on the Mid-Prairie basketball team ,as a four year starter at point guard, he has been in the top 10 in class 2A in Iowa in assists. Tornow will study accounting while on campus.
