It was a Southeast Iowa Super Conference doubleheader showdown in Winfield on Friday, as the Wolves hosted Columbus and the night ended in a split.

In the girls game the Wolves utilized a fast start to roll to a 59-16 victory. It was quickly 20-1 after one and 36-5 at half when the lead continued to grow the final 16 minutes. Kyndal Townsley paced the WMU offense with 13 points, Keetyn Townsley recorded 10 points, and Farrah Nelson hauled in 10 boards. WMU improves to 8-8 and Columbus drops to 1-15.

The boys game was nip and tuck the entire way with the Wildcats pulling out their first win of the season in a 64-61 finish. No team led by more than five points the entire way with the Wolves holding a slight 35-34 lead at half and 52-51 at the end of three. After Columbus took a late lead, WMU had one final look at the basket when a three was off the mark as the buzzer sounded. Eric Valdez was a man on a mission finishing with a game-high 38 points on 13-23 shooting including four threes. Brody Frost added 11 points and Evan Rees had 11 rebounds. The Wildcats improve to 1-15 and the Wolves drop to 4-10.
