
The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls basketball teams get their week started with a road trip tonight as they travel to Iowa City to take on the rival Regals. The Golden Hawk girls come into the game with an overall record of 4-9, having dropped three in a row. The latest a five point loss at Tipton a week ago 46-41. The Hawks were led in that game by Maddie Nonnenmann with eight points. On the season she is the leading scorer at 11 points per game and also the leading rebounder with 67 this year. Amara Jones leads the Golden Hawk guard court with 52 steals and 45 assists.
Iowa City Regina comes into the night with an overall record of 9-4. They won a defensive slugfest against Solon Saturday 29-27 with Annie Gahan scoring 16 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. On the season, the Regals are led by Sam Greving at 13 points per game. Claire Gaarde is the team leader with 76 rebounds, 36 assists and 29 steals. These two teams met earlier this year with the Regals beating the Hawks 32-29 in Wellman.
The Mid-Prairie boys enter the contest with an overall record of 3-9. The Hawks fell at Tipton in overtime a week ago 63-60, despite 14 points from Carter Harmsen. On the year, Mid-Prairie is led by Harmsen at 13 points per game. Brad Tornow is the team leader with 53 assists while Aidan Rath patrols the boards for the Hawks with a team best 78 rebounds.
Iowa City Regina comes into the matchup with an overall record of 9-3. Last time out the Regals were beaten at Solon Saturday 62-60, despite 36 points from Masen Miller. Miller leads the Regals scoring 26 points per game, best in the River Valley and class 2A. He is also the conference and team leader with 65 assists and has pulled in a team best 74 rebounds. These two teams met in December with the Regals getting the win in Wellman 61-48.
