Washington has now been a Tree City for 29 years. During the annual report given to the council recently, Marde McConnell shared that in that time the committee has planted or given away 12,500 trees in Washington. Last year they planted nearly 100 trees and gave away 150 more. Committee member John Marshall shared some of the projects they’ve been working on, including those in response to the emerald ash borer and they look forward to helping at the golf course, “They lost 86 ash trees on the course. So I haven’t been out there to see what, but they have most of them removed now. They’re wanting [arborist] Andy [Dahl]’s expertise on when it warms up to go out and do some planting, to know how to purchase the trees, where the best source is, the cheapest, and get the best for your dollars. So we’re kind of anxious to work with that. We want the golf course to be, you know, just like it used to be for all the different teams coming in and people from other communities.” This spring the tree committee will be planting trees at the city’s new water treatment plant.
