The Mid-Prairie boys and girls basketball teams were beaten Tuesday in Iowa City by Regina in both ends of a River Valley Conference doubleheader. The Mid-Prairie girls fell by a 46-34 score. The Regals built their lead methodically early, up 11-7 after one quarter and 23-16 at the half. The lead would continue to increase for Regina until it reached 14 in the third quarter. The Hawks made two pushes in the fourth, cutting the lead as close as seven but couldn’t get over the hump. Maddie Nonnenmann led Mid-Prairie with eight points, all in the first half. Annie Gahan led Regina with 18 points. With the loss, Hawks are now 4-10 while the Regals improve to 11-4.

In the boys game, Regina powered by Mid-Prairie 65-47. Regina started the game on an 18-4 run that lasted the first seven minutes of the contest. Mid-Prairie battled back with a 12-2 run in the second frame and pulled within 29-26 at the half. In the second half the Hawks scored the first bucket to close within one, only to see Regina close the third on a 17-5 run and not look back. Mid-Prairie was led by 17 points from Ethan Trimpe, Aidan Rath added 11. Regina was led by Masen Miller with 28. With the loss the Hawks fall to 3-10 while the No. 11 ranked Regals are now 10-3.
