It’s a Washington County rivalry tonight when Washington plays host to Mid-Prairie for a girl/boy basketball doubleheader.

The Golden Hawk girls have claimed area bragging rights between the two schools for the last five years including a 47-31 win last season. The current squad is 6-10, but has won two in a row including a 49-46 victory over Bellevue on Friday when Myah Lugar hit four shots from behind the arc. Confidence hasn’t been lacking for the Demons, as they are 10-5 and have three consecutive one possession wins. In the win streak, Anna Nacos has been the catalyst averaging 20 points a night.

The boys’ game went down to the wire in 2019 with the Golden Hawks pulling off a 63-61 victory. Mid-Prairie is 3-12 and look for their first win in six tries. They will rely on the offensive abilities of Carter Harmsen and Ethan Trimpe that average 13 and 11 points, respectively. The MO of the 11-4 Demons has been their depth and that was on full display Friday in a 74-63 win over Burlington with five players in double figures. Ethan Patterson paced the team with 19 points in their first full game without injured leading scorer Kasen Bailey.

The girls’ game gets underway at 6:15 p.m. tonight with the boys to follow from Washington. Listen to the doubleheader on AM 1380 and FM 102.5 KCII.
