The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk basketball teams traveled north to Bellevue on Friday, splitting a pair of River Valley Conference contests with the Comets. The Golden Hawk girls won their second in a row taking out the Comets 49-46. Mid-Prairie started the game with an early lead, up 13-9 after one quarter and 27-19 at half. Bellevue erased the deficit with a big third quarter, outscoring the Hawks 15-7 in the frame to tie things at 34 going to the fourth. In the final period the Golden Hawks did enough down the stretch to secure the victory. Myah Lugar led the way for Mid-Prairie with 12 points. Maddie Nonnenmann added 11 and Caitlyn Riggan 10. With the win Mid-Prairie is now 6-10.
The Golden Hawk boys fell to the Comets 64-59. Bellevue built an early lead, forcing the Hawks to play catch-up the rest of the night up 22-15 at the end of one and 36-25 at half. In the second half Mid-Prairie chipped away, getting within seven at the end of the third and five down the stretch but could not complete the comeback. Carter Harmsen led the Hawks with 23, Ethan Trimpe had 12. With the loss, Mid-Prairie is 3-12 on the year. The Golden Hawk boys and girls travel to Washington Monday.
