Mid-Prairie students and staff spoke their minds on what facilities need to be improved within the school district. At the recent school board meeting, Shive Hattery Architect Tandi Brannaman shared the results of various group discussions of what students, faculty, and staff want improved in the near future. The most requested improvements are middle school and elementary classrooms, parking lots, and more room for extracurricular activities. Brannaman also shared with the board enrollment and building utilization, and concepts for potential future add-ons to the high school, middle school, and elementary school to better fit future increases in enrollment. Superintendent Mark Schneider commented on how the board might approach these projects in the near future, “As Tandi pointed out at the middle school we probably are maxed out as far as enrollment is concerned. There’s probably a little bit more of a need to do something there quicker. Each of the projects kind of carries with them how immediate of a need it is. Is this something we have to do right away or is it something that we can put off for while? Or does it make financial sense to do it right now? Some things, if you wait too long, then it may become more expensive over a period of time. So you have to kind of take that into consideration, too.” The board will continue to have facility planning discussions at their meetings. No official decisions on projects have yet been made.
