Working at a firehouse at the age of 70 can be difficult, but for Wellman Fire Department volunteer Jim Millice, it’s his daily life. For 60 years, Millice has been part of the Wellman Fire Department and he was recognized for his accomplished years by his fellow firefighters. Millice received a plaque in honor of his dedication to the department. Wellman Fire Chief Jeremey Peck talked about the emotions that came when Millice received his award, “That was big. Very few people make that kind of commitment to anything, especially when it’s volunteering. To give and not somewhere along the line lose interest, lose passion. Very emotional time for him as well as the fire department. The officers of the fire department realize that, ‘Wow this guy has put in 60 years, that’s more than a majority of people put in times three.’ A lot of people get off after 20 years and he stuck it out for 60.” Millice says the one way he’s been able to volunteer for so long is his dedication and good health.
