Lone Tree High School was the location for the 2020 Southeast Iowa Super Conference wrestling tournament on Saturday and three area individuals stood on top of the podium.
Columbus Community/WMU had the best area team finish in fourth out of 12 teams with 140 points while New London won conference with 195. Highland placed sixth with 105, WACO was ninth with 72, and Lone Tree was 10th with 38. The Wildcats crowned two champions including Lane Scorpil at 106 lbs and Noah Freeman at 170 lbs. Scorpil had a pin in 1:07 and won by a 14-7 decision in the title match. Freeman recorded two falls in a combined 6:42 and then a 12-2 major decision. Bryce Thompson had Highland’s best finish in second at 106 lbs with a pair of pins before falling to Scorpil in the championship. Third place Huskie finishes included Easton Schlabaugh at 113 lbs, Carlos Valenzuela at 120 lbs, and Justin Sosa at 195 lbs. WACO’s Jaden Williams won conference at 152 lbs by pinning his opponent in 15 seconds and then winning an exciting 6-5 decision in the title match. Jalen Collins nabbed second at 126 lbs for the Warriors. Lone Tree had a pair of fourth place wrestlers including Hunter Hain at 160 lbs and Tim Mills at 220 lbs.
The postseason officially starts Saturday with sectionals.
