The Highland Huskies completed a season sweep of the Hillcrest Ravens Monday night in Riverside. The Highland girls topped the Ravens 68-28. The Huskies led 11-5 after the first quarter and put together a 19-9 run in the second to take a 30-14 lead into the half. Out of the break, the Huskies owned the second half, outscoring Hillcrest 38-14. Dani Laughlin had a team high 23 points off the bench, Alyssa Brase added 21 and Abbi Stransky 10. Hillcrest was led by Yani Gutierrez with a 14 point 10 rebound double double. Esther Hughes added 10 more. With the win, the Huskies are now 6-16 on the year while the Ravens fall to 1-17.
The boys contest was tightly contested but the Huskies had enough late to hold on for a 49-44 win. It was Highland early, going on a 17-9 run that lasted the entire first frame. They would outscore the Ravens 11-7 in the second to take a 28-16 lead into the half. Hillcrest bounced back in the second half, making a late push to get within two possessions. Hillcrest was led by Kobe Borntrager with 21, Eli Ours added 11. With the win, the Huskies improve to 17-2. The Ravens are now 8-8 on the year.
