A bid for tower and antenna work for the updated Washington County emergency communications system was approved unanimously by the board of supervisors. At their meeting Tuesday, the board awarded the $1,175,895 bid to Finish Excavating of East Dubuque, Illinois. Supervisor Chairman Jack Seward said construction is set to begin March 1st with a substantial completion date in October. He said the company will be constructing two major towers, a third smaller tower of about 50 feet, and will do antenna work on existing towers. The goal is to have 95% portable coverage for emergency responders across Washington County. In total six bids were received ranging from $1.17 million to $1.75 million.
