A special election has been set for March 3rd for two items for the Washington School District. Public Measure A is to adopt the revenue purpose statement, which specifies the use of revenues the district receives from the State of Iowa Secure an Advanced Vision for Education Fund. The fund’s purpose statement states the district would use such funding to improve, add, and maintain facilities. Public Measure B is also for the purchasing and improving of grounds, buildings, and technology and if passed would authorize a period of 10 years to levy annually a voter-approved physical plant and equipment property tax not to exceed $1 per $1,000 of assessed valuation of taxable property.
Absentee ballots for the special election are now available in the Washington County Auditor’s Office. Residents of the school district can vote early in person or by mail. If requesting a ballot by mail, the signed request must be turned in to the auditor’s office by 5 p.m. February 21st.
