A three game home stand got started on the right foot on Tuesday for the Sigourney girls’ basketball team, as they stifled Belle Plaine 63-18 for the season sweep of the Plainsmen.
Three Savage players were in double figures led by Megan Stuhr with 21 points including nine of 11 from the line. The senior point guard also dished out nine assists. Makenna Hammes and Kaylee Weber each hauled in nine boards with Hammes tallying 18 points and Weber recording 17. Sigourney has won seven of eight games and improve to 13-4 overall. They have a meeting tonight with Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont.
The Savage boys hung tough for a while trailing just 22-14 at the break, but a monstrous third by the Plainsmen extended the deficit en route to a 72-37 finish. Sigourney drops to 7-10 and they host Keota tomorrow for an area rivalry.
