Legislators in Des Moines are discussing school funding as the 2020 legislative session continues. Governor Kim Reynolds’ budget calls for 2.5% allowable growth for state supplemental aid. Democratic State Senator Kevin Kinney shares what he’d like to see, “Senate Republicans’ proposal is for 2.1%. I would like to see that at least at the 2.5%, if not at 3% just to try to keep up with inflation.” Last year, the legislature approved 2.6% allowable growth for public schools from preschool through high school.
