The season continued for the Highland wrestling team on Saturday, as they moved on to regional duals after placing second at sectionals in Mediapolis.

The Huskies placed second with 164.5 points that bested third place Pekin’s 155.5. New London was sectional champs with 206.5. Five individuals also advance individually to districts led by first place winners Bryce Thompson at 106 lbs and Cael Yeggy at 182 lbs. Thompson won his only match of the day by pinning his opponent in 43 seconds while Yeggy had a pair of falls in a combined 2:43. Second place competitors included Easton Schlabaugh at 113 lbs, Carlos Valenzuela at 120 lbs, and Eli Slaymaker at 195 lbs.

Other area schools competing included Sigourney-Keota placing fourth out of eight teams with 150 points and WACO in sixth with 98. Four Cobras are moving on including sectional champ Mason Dye at 126 lbs. The senior pinned his first opponent in 40 seconds and then won by an 11-7 decision in the finals. Second place individuals included Jack Clarahan at 152 lbs, Nate Schuster at 160 lbs, and Aidan Schuster at 170 lbs. WACO’s Jalen Collins stood on top of the podium for 132 lbs after a fall in 1:14 and 7-6 decision victory. Fellow senior Jaden Williams was also a champ at 152 lbs with a pair of pins in 3:01. Jonah Clark will also represent the Warriors at districts by placing second at 145 lbs.

The Huskies advance to tomorrow’s class 1A regional dual at #2 Don Bosco. All individuals that cracked the top two will advance to Saturday’s district at English Valleys.
