With tax season coming up in April, Kalona residents will be happy to hear a decrease in the city’s tax asking for the next fiscal year. Ryan Schlabaugh outlines the proposed decrease that will be discussed at the next public hearing, “We are proposing, last night, to present a budget that would be 1.35 to 1.37% decrease in our tax asking from our current fiscal year.” The 2020-2021 budget will decrease property taxes from $10.73 per $1,000 to $10.59 per $1,000. The city is also putting aside approximately $40,000 for capital projects, such as roads and sidewalks, that the public can weigh in on during work sessions. The next work session is set for March 2nd.
