If there were a trending phrase for area coaches in mid-February it would be “peaking at the right time”. That’s just what the Mid-Prairie boys basketball team is doing. The Hawks won their fourth straight game Tuesday with a 67-56 victory at home over Durant. Mid-Prairie started out strong up 15-10 after one quarter and 28-19 at the half. Out of the half, Durant hung around before Mid-Prairie closed the door on a double figure win. Carter Harmsen went double double 25 points and 10 rebounds. Ethan Trimpe had 21 points. This avenges a 62-52 setback against the Wildcats in mid-January on the road. This is the Hawk’s first four game winning streak since beating Washington, Fairfield, West Liberty and Highland exactly nine years ago. Mid-Prairie is now 7-13 on the year and hosts No. 8 Monticello Thursday to wrap up the regular season. The Golden Hawks also welcomed back the 1970 Mid-Prairie boys basketball team to honor the 50th anniversary of their state runner-up finish.
