The Hillcrest Academy boys and girls basketball teams traveled to Danville Tuesday for their final doubleheader of the regular season. In the girls contest, the Bears got a 53-32 win. With things tied early, the Bears ran in nine straight to go up 11-2. They would lead 26-11 at halftime. Another 9-0 run for the Bears in the third quarter put the game out of reach. Yani Gutierrez led the Ravens with 18 points, Esther Hughes added 11. With the loss, Hillcrest ends the regular season at 2-19. They open the playoffs Thursday when they travel to Lone Tree.

The boys contest was a wild one, but the Ravens scored a quality road win 60-56, their fourth road victory of the season. Danville led 11-10 after one quarter and built a nine point lead midway through the second quarter before the Ravens closed the frame on a 15-2 run to take a 32-28 lead into the break. The third quarter belonged to Danville as the Bears catapulted back up 46-42 going to the fourth. In the final period the Ravens held on in a tough atmosphere and a physical game to grind out a win. Late baskets from Drew Blauvelt and John Hughes put Hillcrest up for good and free throws from Eli Ours kept them there. After the game, head coach Dwight Gingerich talked about his team finishing and handling adversity. “You come to Danville you always know it’s going to be a great game. They play extremely hard. We did a great job after the first few minutes maintaining our composure. Eli Ours hit big shots all night, they went box and one on him and he still go free. In the meantime, we had guys like Kobe Borntrager and John Hughes step up and make big shots. It was good to see Drew Blauvelt go for double figures. The guys off the bench also gave us big minutes.”

Ours ended with a game high 26. Kobe Borntrager finished with 12, Blauvelt had a career high 10. The Ravens are now 10-9 on the year as they travel to HLV to finish the regular season Friday.
