A short road trip to Thornburg was a successful one for the Sigourney basketball teams, as they marched right past Tri-County in the final girl/boy doubleheader of the season.
The girls’ game was a rout for the entire 32 minutes, as the Savages exploded out for an 18-0 advantage after one and the lead continued to grow en route to a 58-12 win. Megan Stuhr had another strong offensive outing with 26 points on nine of 17 shooting and nabbed eight steals. Makenna Hammes had 17 points and nine rebounds. The Savages close the regular season 16-4 and they gear up for the first round of regionals tomorrow hosting Keota.
The boys’ game was close after one with Sigourney up 10-7, but a big second quarter saw the lead stretch to 24-10 at the break. Another prosperous offensive quarter in the third put the game to bed and the Savages finished with a 56-40 victory. Mason Harter led the team with 21 points and 12 boards. Ben House was efficient with 15 points on five of seven shooting. Sigourney is now 8-11 and they conclude the regular season slate on Friday against Twin Cedars.
