The City of Washington has set the maximum property tax dollars to be levied in the next fiscal year budget. At their meeting Tuesday, the Washington City Council held a public hearing for the maximum property tax dollar levied for the fiscal year 2021 budget. City Administrator Brent Hinson explained it’s the first time for certain steps of the budget procedure that were put in place by the state legislature last year. He said it increases transparency, “Just as we have every year in the past, we’re going to try to put together a responsible budget that squeezes the tax dollars as far as we can make them go.” The maximum property tax dollars levied will not exceed $2,868,305 in the City of Washington. That is an increase of 0.32% from the current fiscal year with a calculated property tax asking of $11.62772. The budget will officially be set in March.
