Temperatures dropped 40 degrees Wednesday night into Thursday morning down to four degrees below zero. With the windchill Thursday morning it felt like 23 degrees below zero. The winter storm also left 2.2 inches of snow in Washington. In such cold conditions, frostbite can occur in under 30 minutes. Washington County Emergency Management Coordinator Marissa Reisen encourages people to clear their vehicle’s windows before putting it in drive, “Clean off the windshields and just take the time to let your car warm up. It’s not necessarily about the car running better when it’s warm, it’s about letting your car warm up and get some of the snow off and get some of the ice off and just be better prepared. And if it’s snowing or raining, if your wipers on make sure your headlights are on even if it’s sunny.” Also remember to clean snow off of your headlights and turn signals.

Temperatures are expected to warm up above freezing on Saturday and Sunday, followed by a chance of rain Monday. Listen to KCII for weather updates.
