Rental housing inspections were brought up during a recent Keota City Council meeting. According to council minutes, Councilman Curt Burroughs outlined the current rental inspection ordinance in place and proposed eliminating the required yearly city rental inspections, but not rental inspections all together. Burroughs says the process costs the city “a great deal of time and money.” The current ordinance states the council has the authority to order an inspection at any time if there is an issue or a complaint is made about the property. It also states the council can require an inspection before the sale or transfer of a property. The council will have a public hearing during their regular meeting on February 18th to discuss the ordinance amendment.
