Ten KCII area wrestlers hit the mat on the biggest stage today, as they gear up for day one of the Iowa High School State Wrestling Tournament in Des Moines.

In Class 2A Lane Scorpil of Columbus Community/WMU will compete at 106 lbs, Mid-Prairie’s Isaac Boucher will be at 195 lbs, and Washington’s Brayden Hartman at 285 lbs. In the class 1A session Highland will have Bryce Thompson at 106 lbs and Cael Yeggy at 182 lbs. Sigourney-Keota has Mason Dye at 126 lbs and Jack Clarahan at 152 lbs. WACO has three participants in Jalen Collins at 132 lbs, Jonah Clark at 145 lbs, and Jaden Williams at 152 lbs. Highland Head Coach Derick Ball tells KCII Sports he is stoked for the tournament and you should be as well. “It is the greatest show on earth, no doubt about it. If you haven’t been there, you need to. You walk in there and get awestruck. What we are preaching to our guys is to go out there and leave everything on the mat. I’ll say this once and say it forever, there is nothing like the Iowa State Wrestling Tournament.”

Class 2A will get their session underway at 1:30 p.m. at Wells Fargo Arena with 1A starting at 6 p.m. If wrestlers win their first match, they advance to tomorrow. If they lose, they will have another match today to try to stay alive in the tournament.
