Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk senior wrestler Isaac Boucher is back at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines to kick off his state tournament. Boucher advanced to state after finishing as runner-up at the district tournament Saturday at Center Point Urbana High School. He comes into action in Des Moines with an overall record of 42-6. He is ranked No. 8 in class 2A at 195lbs according to the latest poll from thepredicament.com. Boucher was sixth at last year’s state meet. His first round opponent is 37-7 freshman Zavion McMurran from Estherville Lincoln Central. Should Boucher win, he would face the winner of No. 9 Gabe Hemsted of Carlisle and Chayce Hooyer of Sioux Center. Boucher spoke this week with KCII sports about his mindset going into the first match. “I don’t really like to keep up to date on specifics about the guy that I’m going wrestle. I know that I have a match in the afternoon and that some other guy is going to step up to the line across from me and I have to beat him to move on.”
Also ranked in Boucher’s side of the bracket are No. 2 Evan Rosonke of New Hampton Turkey Valley and No. 6 Conner Murty of East Marshall.
On the other side of the bracket are No. 1 Wyatt Voelker of West Delaware, No. 3 Dylan Winkel of Central Lyon, No. 4 Sam Chapman of Creston-Orient-Macksburg, No. 7 Carter Maynes of Red Oak, and No. 10 Jake Steenhoek of Gilbert. Action continues all day and into the weekend at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. Listen to AM and FM KCII throughout the day Thursday, Friday and Saturday for updates.
