Over 60 citations and 100 warnings were issued by law enforcement in Washington County during a special nine-hour project. According to Washington County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Shawn Ellingson, the Iowa State Patrol District 13 teamed up with the sheriff’s office from 3 p.m. to midnight on Saturday. The goal was to support traffic safety while reducing preventable collisions and providing a safe environment for motorists.
Ellingson called the event a success. The citations broke down to 35 speeding, two seatbelt or child restraints, seven insurance, two driving while suspended, one no driver’s license, six registration, one equipment issue, two operating while intoxicated, and two narcotics arrests. Warnings were issued with 30 for speeding, one for seatbelt or child restraint, 20 for insurance, 15 other, and 37 for faulty equipment.
