Mid-Prairie senior Isaac Boucher made a statement in Thursday’s opening round of the class 2A state wrestling tournament. The Golden Hawk 195lber not only scored a victory to advance to the next round, he did so by pin, recording a fall over Zavion McMurrin of Estherville Lincoln Central. This is Boucher’s second straight trip to state in Des Moines and he talked this week about the importance of that experience. “I’m going in, I don’t have anything to be scared about. They are high schoolers like me. The put their pants one leg at a time. I’m just up there to win as many matches as I can.”
In Friday’s quarterfinal round, Boucher will face off with No. 9 Gabe Hermsted of Carlisle. He was also a winner by fall in the opening round of the tournament Thursday over Chayce Hooyer of Sioux Center. Boucher is 44-6 on the season. Hermsted, a junior, is 43-3.
