Grants to fund phase two of the Kewash Nature Trail are being sought. The Washington County Conservation Board is applying for the Wellmark Large Match Grant to make up for remaining funds they need. Zach Rozmus tells KCII News where phase two will pick up and the estimated cost of the project, “And essentially right there, on the west side (of Highway 1) where our phase one leads off, phase two is gonna pick right up and our goal is to make it all the way to Crooked Creek Bridge. And what that will consist of is a 10-foot wide, six-inch thick concrete trail that will go all the way to the bridge, so it will kind of allow for year-round accessibility. Trail conditions can kind of vary, so this grant, the Wellmark Grant one specifically, will kind of help make up for the room that we know that kind of still left on the actual project itself. We are thinking about the project, it’s always an estimate when it comes down to it, we are thinking the project is going to cost anywhere between $500,000 and $550,000.” Rozmus and the Conservation Board will know by May if they have been awarded the grant, and look to start project designs for phase two by October.
